Hemp "hurds" are the woody inner core of the Industrial Hemp plant, also called "shives" after the outer skin (fiber) is removed. This hurd looks like wood chips but is much lighter and more absorbent, making them a great insulator for animal bedding, mulching, and "Hempcrete" construction projects.
